Hair Transplants

1. Do I qualify?

To qualify for surgical restoration, you need healthy hair growth at the back and sides of your head, which serve as donor areas. Hair transplants can be performed at any stage of hair loss, whether your hair is thinning or baldness is more apparent. It is essential to establish the hair loss pattern before undergoing surgery. Our experts specialize in accurately identifying hair loss patterns to ensure optimal results.

2. Designing a new hairline

With years of experience, we take pride in expertly designing hairlines that consider both immediate and long-term results, taking into account both the post-surgical outcome in one year and the expected rate of hair loss over your lifetime. With a limited number of donor follicles, the design must ensure a lasting, natural look. Younger patients with extensive hair loss may not achieve high density, while older patients with less hair loss allow for more artistic freedom in hairline design.

3. Surgery day

Preparation and Harvesting of Donor Area
The Safe Donor Area (SDA), also known as the “lifetime” supply of hair, is a three-inch tall band of hair-rich scalp around the lower back of your head. From this area, your doctor will excise a 1 cm x 22 cm section, containing an average of 2,500 follicular units. Before the excision, the donor hair will be shaved to about 3 mm in length. The donor area is then numbed with local anesthetic to ensure you feel no pain or discomfort during the excision. The incision is closed using traditional plastic surgery techniques, leaving little to no indication of the procedure. The harvest process typically takes about half an hour.

Preparation of Grafts
Graft preparation is meticulous and delicate. The hair-bearing tissue is kept cool and hydrated during dissection. Under a microscope, follicular unit grafts are slivered, crosscut, and trimmed into individual cylinders containing one to three hairs, occasionally up to four.

4. Recovery

Your doctor will dress the recipient and donor sites with a loose-fitting bandage and cap. Most patients leave pain-free but can take over-the-counter pain medication for mild discomfort. Within five days, you will return for a post-operative check, where the dressing will be removed.

**First Few Weeks**
In the first few days, you may notice minimal scabbing at the graft site, and much of the transplanted hair will fall out, which is normal and allows for new growth. By three weeks, most scabs will have flaked off, post-surgical redness will have faded, and new hair follicles will start to grow.

**Three to Eighteen Months**
Three to four months after surgery, significant hair growth will be noticeable, and any lingering scalp sensitivity will have declined. By six months, the majority of the grafted follicles will be actively growing, adding density and length. By 12-18 months, the transplanted follicles will be fully matured, allowing you to cut and style your hair as desired.

FUE

Uses manual or motorized punches to extract individual grafts, which can result in minimal scarring that looks like small dots. FUE is minimally invasive and can take one to four hours to complete. Patients report less discomfort than with other methods, and they can go home the same day as the procedure. However, FUE may result in lower density because it can be difficult to grasp the entire follicular unit.

FUT

Removes a long, thin strip of hair-bearing tissue from the donor area and dissects it into smaller grafts. This procedure is quicker and simpler than FUE, taking only 15 to 30 minutes. FUT can provide a higher graft count in a single session and may be more cost-effective for extensive restoration. However, it results in a linear scar that requires suturing and can cause minimal discomfort. Patients should also avoid strenuous activities for several weeks while the scar heals.
